Executive Committee
Purpose: According to our church bylaws, “The Executive Committee shall administer the business of the church between meetings of the church, maintain the real estate of the church, provide adequate insurance for the church properties within such limits as may be voted by the church, arrange for the safekeeping of church funds, records and other valuable properties.” What this means is that the committee is responsible for the overall administration of the church.
Membership / Meetings: Currently there are 7 members on the committee: Barbara Hale, President; Doug Smith, Treasurer; Colleen Groner, Clerk; and Members at Large include Donna Boyea, Robyn Vincent, Laurie Magnuson and Gary Blanchard. Our minister, Rev. Craig Nowak is an ex-officio member of the Executive Committee. The number of members permitted to serve on this committee is limited by the church by-laws. We meet on the first Monday of every month at 6:30 and additionally as needed. We also have an annual retreat where we discuss the vision of the church and set long term and short term goals. All Executive Committee meetings are open to all members of the church. Members are encouraged to share concerns and ideas with any member of the Executive Committee.
Current Goals and Responsibilities: The Executive Committee is responsible for making policies and procedures that are consistent with the vision and direction of our church. We handle all issues affecting the daily operations and future goals and vision of the church including: monitoring and establishing specified committees, building management and maintenance, financing, budgeting and fundraising, outreach, programming, staffing, and worship.
When should I join this Committee? As Alan Hyde, a past president once said, “One should ease into this committee. Enjoy church and get to know people.” The Nominating Committee may ask you if you are interested in serving on the Executive Committee. Once nominated, every member of the Executive Committee must be voted in by the congregation at Annual Meeting.
Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers are currently needed for regular building maintenance including cleaning, garbage removal, recycling, lawn care, and snow removal.
Donations: Donations are accepted by the Executive Committee for office, kitchen and building supplies. All donations are accepted in accordance with the BUUC Stewardship and Gift Policy.
